How to Make Money with Traffic Exchanges

Do traffic exchanges work? Can you make money with traffic exchanges?

I can’t tell the amount of times I’ve seen these questions and other variations asked in the traffic section of marketing forums I’ve visited in the past.

I’ve had my own experience with traffic exchanges and with more than 4 years experience generating traffic for my affiliate websites, I’ve formulated my own opinion about them.

Although I wouldn’t waste my time or money on traffic exchanges, I’ll have to admit that yes, you can make money with traffic exchanges but 95% of users do it entirely wrong.

Who?

The most important thing to keep in mind when using traffic exchanges is who’s on the other end viewing your website. Nearly all of the traffic you’re going to generate on traffic exchanges are other marketers trying to make money and get more traffic to their sites.

They’re surfing so that they can generate more credits to get more views. This is all they want. Think about it – what do YOU want out of a traffic exchange?

The way traffic exchanges are set up is to rotate your website for other marketers to see. Other marketers who need traffic views have to view sites themselves so theirs would get viewed.

This is why its called a traffic exchange so if you’re planning on using one, keep in mind that your target market is other marketers.

Already, if you’re looking for targeted traffic (the type that buys stuff and makes your money), you now know that promoting your weight loss affiliate program or your flower shop on traffic exchanges is totally useless. No one is going to pull out their credit card while surfing for credits and views. Maybe there’s a fat guy trying to make money online or another celebrating his anniversary soon but it’s highly unlikely they’ll make you a commission since that’s not the reason they’re using the traffic exchange.

What’s the Secret Then?

We know some things about traffic exchange users:

  • they’re not buying anything
  • they have low attention span
  • they’re only interested in generating traffic for themselves
  • and making more money

So all we need to do is cater to the needs of these traffic exchange users by giving them what they want. Most importantly, traffic and opportunity to make more money.

This should come in the form of the offer you’re going to present to them. Since they aren’t going to buy your traffic program or your make money program, we can do the next best thing.

Build a list of subscribers!

If you keep your message short and to the point and targeted to the users needs then you’ll have the perfect funnel to make money from traffic exchanges. By building a list of subscribers, you’ll be able to market to get their attention over and over again and have the opportunity to sell to them.

In fact, this is how I ended up learning most of what I know about affiliate marketing today. I was surfing Traffic Swarm and got pulled into one marketers list that taught me how to get traffic writing articles. To this day, that particular marketer has been earning (and very deserving) commissions from me for recommending an awesome affiliate marketing training website called Wealthy Affiliate.

You’ll need an autoresponder for generating your form and managing your optins and messages. Aweber is the market leader but you can also try GetResponse.

To learn how to drive traffic to your sites more efficiently, Wealthy Affiliate offers training in many areas of internet marketing including traffic generation and list building. I’ve benefited a great deal from the training at Wealthy Affiliate and think that you can as well which is why I’m recommending them.

Check out my Wealthy Affiliate review to see how I’ve benefited from them.

So tell me in the comments, how have you been using traffic exchanges?

You are right of course about TE surfers, they are not interested in anyone elses make money programs as they already have one they are trying to sell, but then they also know this fact so why are there still hordes of people flocking to the TEs?

Because the TEs are paying a small commission for sales of Ad packs, upgraded members, and downline building and….. surfers are open to offers like you said, catering to their desire of bringing more traffic to their offers and this would include a traffic program if you had the right program to offer them.

I was like you, I used Trafficswarm about 5 years ago and there was really not many features available just surf and your site would be shown and there really were not that many TEs around I lost interest and quit. It wasn’t until very recently I reconsidered TEs and was quite shocked to see how popular they are and how many they have grown in number! wow I had to take a look and see what was different. I couldn’t believe how loaded with features they are now and monetizing options available. I can see a bigger picture here now and one that is not confined to the TEs. If someone were to exploit these tools in the right way and in the right places there is a lot more money to be made by expanding our thinking outside of the TEs but still using the TEs tools to do it.

You can actually bring other people (opportunity seekers) to the TEs.
Thanks for your article, there is some really good insights in it. Dave
